The club was formed to support stroke survivors of any age, as well as their families and carers in Halton. Primarily, we are a social meeting group where we encourage like-minded people and forget their problems for a few hours. As a registered charity, we raise funds to help stroke survivors to reintegrate into their communities and get back to normal life. The club is run solely by volunteers.
We arrange day trips every month between March and October, using a fully accessible 49 seater luxury coach. These inexpensive trips are vital to some of our members who are not confident using public transport or don't have access to a car. They can sit back in comfort and have a good chat.
The club arranges a 7 day holiday in June, to a Disabled friendly hotel. Whilst there we use a coach to take us out to local places of interest. We also offer a long weekend break in March and November/December. The club funds the transport, meaning that members only pay for their accommodation.
We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the DCBL Stadium, Widnes, between 8 pm and 10 pm. Here we have entertainment, quizzes, raffles, and race nights. We arrange free transport for those who can't access transport of their own.
We also arrange an afternoon club at the Grangeway Community Centre, Runcorn on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, between 2 pm and 4 pm. It is run on the same basis. but unfortunately, we don't have funding for transport presently.
The club is run solely by volunteers, which means that any money we receive is spent on our members. The vast majority of our expenditure is spent in the borough. If you would like to raise funds for the club or make a donation, please contact one of our Trustees, or come to one of our meetings. Corporate sponsorship is particularly sought after and very welcome.
If you would like to join us, either as a stroke survivor, carer or volunteer, give us a call, and we'll give you any informatio you need.
